On 6 November 2026, Action Against Islamophobia (AAI), an initiative of the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC), delivered an engaging and interactive 90-minute workshop to approximately 75 Year 9 and Year 10 students at the Australian International Academy High School, focusing on Islamophobia awareness and Muslim identity.

The workshop provided students with an opportunity to explore the importance of embracing their Muslim identity with confidence and pride, while developing a deeper understanding of Islamophobia, its various forms and its impact on young Muslims. Through interactive discussions and practical guidance, students were equipped with essential knowledge and strategies to recognise Islamophobia, respond safely and confidently to incidents, and seek appropriate assistance and support when needed. The workshop also gave the students a safe space to share lived experiences of anti-Muslim hate.

The overwhelmingly positive feedback received from students highlighted the value of providing young Muslims with a safe and supportive environment to discuss their experiences, ask questions and develop the confidence to navigate challenges they may encounter in their everyday lives.

The workshop reinforced AAI’s ongoing commitment to empowering the next generation of Australian Muslims through education, awareness and advocacy, ensuring young people feel confident in their identity, supported in their communities and equipped to stand against discrimination and hate.

Together, we can challenge Islamophobia, strengthen community awareness and empower young Muslims to embrace their identity with confidence, pride and resilience.
