The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) recently held a pivotal forum in Queensland, hosted by the Islamic College of Brisbane, focused on addressing the impacts of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim sentiment affecting our communities, particularly over the past 11 months.
This forum brought together esteemed Imams and Muslim community leaders from Queensland to collaboratively discuss this pressing issue and identify gaps in resources and support services needed to effectively tackle the rise in Islamophobic and anti-Muslim hate crimes across the nation.
Alhamdulillah, we engaged in an open and robust discussion that covered the following key points:
✅ The impact of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate on our communities
✅ Barriers to reporting Islamophobic incidents
✅ Ways to enhance access to support services for victims
✅ A platform for community leaders and Imams to share perspectives and contribute to project goals
As part of ANIC’s “Action Against Islamophobia” project, we will continue holding similar community engagement activities with other key stakeholders in the coming months. This initiative is rooted in the principles of justice, empowerment, and advocacy. We believe the insights and experiences of the community are essential to making this effort a powerful tool against hate.
